The Power Of One

May 15, 2012

(Gen 11:6) “And the Lord said, behold the people are one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.”

This was about a people who decided they were going to build them a tower toward heaven in an effort to make a name for themselves. This project was strictly about them and their pride. What we find to be interesting though is the power of unity or the power of oneness these people at Babel had. They were so together that even God had to confess that “nothing can be restrained from them that they have imagined to do.” These were not people who necessarily loved God but God recognized that anyone one operates as a unit can be unstoppable.
Thus, God had to intervene, confound their language and separate these people.

Which brings me to this point, if the body of Christ took on the mentality that we are going to do something for God; that we are going to do something that blesses Him; that we are going to come together with one mind, all speaking the same language, what great power would emanate from the church. When church leadership gets past worrying about who is going to lead, whose church is going to be at the forefront or get rid of the ‘what’s in it for me mentality,’ we will have the opportunity to really be a witness for Christ on a grand scale. The people in Babel had the right thought process, but they had the wrong motives. If we can learn anything from these people it would be that there is power in oneness.

Keep The Faith

May 9, 2012

In (Hebrews 11) we see those Old Testament saints who did great things by and through faith. From Abraham, to Moses, Gideon and even David they all had to do the same thing we have to do today if we are to finish well on earth and make it to heaven, and that is we too must keep the faith. Though times are hard, we must keep the faith; though things often look bad, we have to keep the faith.

There will even be times when it looks like God won’t come through for us, even in those times we have to keep the faith because we know that God always comes through. It may not be the way we thought He should come through; however God never fails where faith abounds.

For we know this is true because the writer of (Hebrews 11:6KJV) says “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he which cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Where God sees true faith He will come for it. Thus, it is incumbent of us all who say we are Christians to keep the faith, for it is required of us who live in God’s Kingdom. Therefore, let us who have received Jesus Christ as Lord and savior begin to see our future as our present and the invisible as visible because the fight isn’t over yet and your victory is close at hand.

How We Endure

May 8, 2012

(Heb 10:32) says “But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;”

The writer of Hebrews was speaking to the new Christian converts of his day who were facing great persecution for their faith in Christ Jesus and he told them “To call to remembrance the former days, in which after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions (Heb 10:32)”. And saints of God, we too must call to remembrance the things that God has done for us in the past if we are going to stand and endure a great fight of afflictions.

We are going to have to pull on how God healed us in the past, when the doctors had given up hope. We’re going to have to find strength in the fact that God brought us out of financial ruin when we saw no way out. We’re going to have go back and reflect on the last time God did the miraculous in our lives and find comfort and strength in what He has done, because if we can remember the former days; if we can remember the way we felt when we first got saved; if we can recall what God has truly done for us, it will give us the strength to continue to endure a great fight of affliction in the days and years to come.

Guarding Our Heart

May 4, 2012

Child of God, because the heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; it behooves us to allow the Lord to minister to our hearts. The truth is that we can never ever get to the place where we believe that we can control the thoughts and intents of our heart apart from the leading of the Holy Spirit. This issue with the heart was such a problem during Jesus days that he said “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man (St. Mark 7:21-23).”

Thus, because man’s heart is not under the influence of the Holy Spirit it’s not hard to see why he does some of the things he does. If you have been keeping up with the news lately, there have been a lot of husbands killing their wives. It’s hard to fathom that things could get that bad in a relationship.

However, if you are not getting a steady diet of the word; if you are not allowing the Lord to minister to-and -through your heart through his word and the beauty of life; if you have taken for granted the one you are supposed to love, then there is no doubt that bad things can and will happen. Child of God, we really need to pay attention to our hearts, be honest with ourselves about what state our hearts are in spiritually, and get the help we need in order to bring our hearts in cadence with the word of the Lord.
