The Cheerful Giver-Part 5

Mal 3:10 says “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it”.

In this particular text God commands Israel to tithe; and this command applies to us today.  The truth is…real believers pay tithes and give offerings.  God encourages us to tithe by telling us if we will tithe faithfully, He would open the windows (plural) of heaven and pour us out a blessing (singular) that we would not have enough room to receive it.  I want you to understand this…God is saying to those believers who will tithe, I will open a multitude of windows in heaven and pour you out “a” blessing, and you won’t have enough room to receive even that singular blessing. That is the kind of God we serve.  He can give us so much in one blessing that we can hardly contain that.  Now if He would do that for those who tithe (because the tithe is our obligation to Him, we owe that) what do you think He will do for those who would tithe and give?  You see giving is the next level of offering to God.  When you owe somebody you are obligated to pay that, however, giving something meaningful to someone says “I love you, I’m thinking of you”.  Therefore, when we give an offering to God in addition to the tithe, it shows God we love Him.  That’s why instead of Jesus talking about tithing in the New Testament, He says “Give and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down and shaken together, and running over shall men give into your bosom” (St.Luke 6:38) thus, giving takes you to the next level of blessing in the Kingdom of God.
