(St. John 15:8) “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
The third sign of a Disciple is fruit bearing. A Christian must display some fruit; and I’m not talking about rotten fruit…such as bitterness, hatred, malice, idolatry…etc. However, I am talking about the fruit of the spirit. As Disciples of Christ we must exemplify love, joy, peace, and longsuffering just to name a few. To display this type of fruit (fresh fruit) is to glorify God. I call the fruit of the Spirit fresh fruit because nobody wants to eat rotten fruit. However, fresh fruit is good for you and good to you. In fact, it’s a recommended need for healthy bodies, thus, the fruit of the Spirit is a recommended need for a healthy spiritual body, mind and soul. Therefore, as Christians we need to learn to love more, speak Godly words more, even smile more. The truth is, if every-time somebody sees you, your face is wrinkled up like a used piece of aluminum foil, their perception of you is probably going to be “that brother/sister is fruitless.” However, if you can display the characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit, and a smile from time-to-time, you can be assured that when people look at you they see fruitfulness. Finally, your fruit is not only in your character (fruit of the Spirit) or your conduct (fruit of righteousness) it is also in those you lead to Christ (the fruit of conversion). However, if your character and conduct aren’t right, then your converts-those you lead to Christ will be minimal anyway. Therefore, let’s challenge ourselves to bear much fruit so our Father will be glorified.
God Bless You.
