Confession Before Possession-Part 4

Very often we define confession as: admitting ones guilt or disclosing ones sin.  However there is another definition for confession which means to recognize the reality or truth.  I like the last definition because in the 14th chapter of Numbers we find twelve men who have been charged to spy out the land of Canaan and bring Moses back a report of what they saw.  Ten of the twelve simply told Moses “the people are strong that dwell in the land”; in other words, we can’t overtake this land is their message to Moses.  However, two young men by the name of Caleb and Joshua said in this same chapter “let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.  Thus, Joshua recognized the truth of who God was and the greatness of God’s power early on; and it was his confession before God and the faithless 10 as a young man that he was able to possess all the land that he did through the power of God as an older man.  Joshua’s confession of faith concerning Canaan blessed God to the degree that when Joshua was old God told him that there was still more land to possess, even though Joshua had conquered and controlled the majority of the region.  However, if you look at the totality of Joshua’s life, from his confession to Moses that (we are well able to overtake them) to his last days-you too will see that his confession set up his possession of the entire enemy’s territory.

                                    God Bless You.
