(Matt 23:3) “All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say and do not.”
As Jesus was speaking to the disciples, he was of the opinion that the Pharisees live under one set of rules while they expect their converts to live under a different set of rules. Thus, they may say one thing but they live totally opposite to that which they minister to their converts. Child of God as Christian leaders we don’t want to be like the Pharisees. We don’t want to preach and teach one thing, but live something else. If we are telling others to love we must be first partakers in that love of God doctrine. If we are telling others to forgive we must be willing to forgive and in fact, have forgiven someone in our past. If we are telling others to live holy we can’t live our lives lying, cheating, stealing and being promiscuous. The Lord has given us very clear guidelines of how we should live, and if He is holy He certainly expects for us to be. The Lord wouldn’t tell us to do something which he has not done, neither should we ask people to live their lives a certain way if we aren’t planning to live by the same rules. This is often the problem with parents and their children. Parents tell their children to do things which they aren’t willing to do themselves and then get mad when the child says “but mom you don’t even do it.” For example, we tell our kids to stop running their mouth’s but the first thing we do when we get home is we start gossiping about the pastor. We tell our kids to clean up their bedroom but our bedroom is dirty. Something is very wrong with that picture; however, I will leave that alone for now. Listen child of God let us live that which we say we believe! Don’t allow there to be an opportunity where people have to constantly question your Christianity because of your lifestyle choices. As my senior pastor always says “Live your life above the snake line.”
God Bless You.
