(1 Sam. 15:22) “And Samuel said, hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offering and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”
After King Saul had been found by God to be guilty of disobedience, the king attempts to tell the prophet Samuel that the people disobeyed, and took the best of the flock in order to make sacrifices unto the Lord. Certainly that was a good excuse; however, God is not into excuses or willful disobedience to his word. In the eyes of God “to obey is better than sacrifice!” Thus, it doesn’t matter how much word we know; it doesn’t matter how much we tithe; it doesn’t matter how well we can praise the Lord. Neither does it matter how well we are able to preach, if obedience doesn’t precede all of this other stuff, it’s all vanity. God is looking for those who will operate in obedience to his word before he ever looks at how good you sound standing behind a pulpit. In fact, he said in (Matt 7:21) “Not everyone that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” We must be doers of his word if we expect it to count in heaven. Don’t get me wrong now, sacrificing for the Lord is good, but sacrifice must be accompanied by obedience. Child of God, our sacrifices won’t buy us favor with God because the currency in heaven is faith-love and obedience.
God Bless You.
