How We Hear

(St. John 8:47) “He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.”

Being able to hear properly is important in the kingdom of God because how we hear, and what we do with what we hear will define our relationship with Christ.  Child of God, when Jesus speaks of the believer hearing; when he says “He that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the church” he expects for the believer to line up and obey.  Thus, if the lord is telling you to go right and you decide to go left your spiritual hearing is off.  If he tells you to be still and know that I am God, but you keep on doing what you want to do then your spiritual hearing is off.  As Christians we can’t do what we want to do and live how we want to live, and not expect there to be consequences for not obeying what the Lord has said.  It takes me back to a time as a young man when my mother would ask me to do something, and I would act as if I didn’t hear her the first time.  After not getting up and doing what she ask me to do, she would say “boy did you hear what I told you to do” I would say “no mom I didn’t”; well she would come in and beat my behind anyway because she knew I heard her the first time, and so did I.  And that’s how God is going to begin to deal with us; he’s not going to keep telling us to do something multiple times, he will just allow Satan to beat our behinds until we decide that we are going to line up and obey the word of the Lord.  Satan has a way of getting our attention when we don’t want to obey God, because in order to serve God obedience is what’s required.
