Over Indulgence

“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any” (1 Cor. 6:12).

The Apostle Paul let’s the church know that just because something is good to you it doesn’t mean it’s good for you.  Fried chicken and banana pudding may be good to us, but too much of it is bad for our health.  In fact, too much of anything other than God has the ability to be bad for us.  It also has the ability to have dominion in our lives.  It’s like a man who knows that he has a problem already with porn who decides to take just one last peek at the internet porn sight and promises himself that it will be the last time he does it, when the fact is we all know that it now has a hold on him.  Or a woman who has a problem with shopping who says she’s only going to buy this last  pair of shoes then she’s going to put the credit card away until she can get control over it, when the fact is that shopping and the credit card has control over her.  Saints of God, if we are going to be dominated or brought under the power of any, it must be Jesus Christ because to be brought under the power of anything on earth is to be brought into bondage. And the Devil loves to use at least three things to bring us to a place of bondage on earth; they are money, food and sex.  The fact is we need all three to sustain life, however, they shouldn’t become our focus; they shouldn’t become that which we place ahead of our relationship with God because if they do they become the very thing which binds us up.

                                    God Bless You
