(Rom 5:8) says “But God commended his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”
The Lord teaches us what real love is time and time again throughout the scriptures. In essence Jesus died for us in spite of our sin; in spite of our shortcomings and in spite of our faults. Thus, in every marriage there will be faults. There will be things that one spouse or the other does that may rub either one the wrong way. However, we are still called to love. We shouldn’t allow those faults to cause us to walk away from the marriage so easily. What if Jesus had of taken on the attitude that because humanity is so hateful and sinful I’m not going to die for them? However, it was love that kept him on that cross, and to all those married Christian couples out there it should be the love of God that keeps us in our marriages. We can’t allow the little things to cause us to walk away from our marriages because real love will keep you around; real love will cause you to stay in the marriage and fight for the marriage. Real love will cause you not to give up on the marriage so quickly because real love is the love of God. In fact saints, the only reason for divorce in the New Testament is adultery. Other than that, God doesn’t really allow divorce, and even in that instance God is able to restore if both parties are willing. Thus, for those Christian marriages that end up in divorce for other reasons God will truly have the last word on that. This real love thing is so tight that (Prov. 10:12) says “Hatred stirs up strife: but love covers all sins.” Hence, it sounds as if the Lord is telling us we must become better lovers in more ways than one.
God Bless You
