(Gal 6:3KJV) says “For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.”
We all know that low self esteem can be bad for you. In fact, if you are a believer low self esteem falls in the sin category. However, the other end of that spectrum is to think too highly of ourselves and that’s just as bad. To think to highly of ourselves causes us to operate in a state of arrogance, pride and haughtiness that God does not approve of. We often see this arrogance come forth in the world by way of money, position, power or popularity. It also happens in the church when some are given titles, position, or influence and they allow those positions to go straight to their head instead of their heart. We most often see it when those who don’t really know who they are begin to get too many pets on the back for their gifting; whether it be singing, preaching…etc. But the fact is we have nothing without the Lord Jesus Christ. We should understand that all gifts and talents flow through him and they are to be used for His glory, but too many times they are used for our glory; and if we don’t catch on to that early and often we will find ourselves thinking way too highly of ourselves and that’s a dangerous place to be as a Christian. Saints of God, there is a balance between low self esteem and arrogance, and we have to find that place in Christ Jesus from whom all blessings flow. Thus, as the Lord grows us up, and elevates us lets encourage one another stay grounded.
God Bless You
