Investing In Our Marriage: Part 1

June 16, 2009

The first thing we can do to demonstrate to God that we are investing in our marriage is: Don’t Be So Quick To Give Up On Our Marriage. Christians are divorcing or separating at a rate that’s greater than those in the world. What’s up with that! What if God had given up on us during all the times we messed up; not only when we where in the world, but since we’ve been saved! But because we serve a God that is full of grace and mercy, He is ready to forgive us when we mess up time and time again.
In marriage we must understand that there will be times that our spouse messes up, but instead of walking away from the marriage, throwing in the towel and giving up, we must hold onto our marriage because (Ecclesiastes 4:12) says “A threefold cord is not quickly broken”. Thus, when the husband and wife are submitted to the third man of the Godhead (the Holy Spirit) that threefold cord is hard to break. That cord might bend but it won’t break. That cord might be stretched to the brink of popping, but because it’s held together by the hands of God, it will maintain strength under challenge and duress. A threefold cord is indestructible but when it’s just us two that make up the cord, (without Jesus) the cord can be broken. Therefore, keep God at the forefront of your marriage.

A Virtuous Woman

June 12, 2009

(Prov. 12:4 KJV) “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.”

When a man finds a virtuous woman he has found a wife for life: For she is a crown unto her husband. Thus, she causes her husband to walk with confidence; she encourages her husband to be the man that God has called him to be. She is a woman of moral excellence, who loves life and loves God first and foremost. She is a woman who knows who she is, understands her role in the lives of her children, husband and friends; but the fact is that she is a woman that’s hard to find, because her price is far above rubies. She is a woman who stands by her man in the good and the bad times. However, when the truth needs to be told in her home she knows how to tell it with a voice of calm. And the fact is if you have one (as I do) you better hold on to her because a virtuous woman is hard to find.
Conversely, Solomon says there is that woman that maketh a man ashamed who brings about rottenness to the bones. Now is this woman a bad woman? Not necessarily. However, when she won’t follow her husband as he follows Christ it hurts to the core of his being. When she spends most of her time discouraging her husband instead of encouraging him it can bring rottenness to the bones. When she believes that because she makes the majority of the money she can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, take the trash out too, and then turn around and tell him what he needs to do, it can hurt him to the core. It’s not to say that this is a bad woman, but it is to say that this woman in any marriage will have a hard time following anybody. Thus, if she can’t follow, if she always has this mentality of “I am woman hear me roar” she might start out with a husband but she probably won’t keep him. Thus, to all the virtuous women out there God bless you, and keep on keeping on, because your husband needs you.

God Bless You.

The Righteous Must Pray

June 11, 2009

(Prov. 11:11) “By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.”

If Christians expect to see our communities changed, if we expect to see our school systems and local governments changed; if we expect to see our cities turn toward the face of God we are going to have to pray. We must say what God said in His word as it pertains to our local government. Saints of God it’s so easy to get caught up in speaking pessimistically about our city leaders and what they should or should not be doing. However, let’s speak the word of God over their lives because unless we have walked in their shoes we don’t have a clue of what it is like to lead a local government. But what we do know is the blessing of the upright exalts a city, but that same city comes under attack by the mouth of the wicked. Thus, never let it be said that the saints of God were a part of that overthrow by speaking negative words over our city officials. If we need them to do better (and we most certainly do) then let’s be sure we pray instead of sitting around talking about how bad they are. In fact, find a way to get involved if what they are doing concerns you that much. Apostle Paul said it perfectly when he told Timothy “I exhort therefore, that first of all, that all supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men: For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty (Tim. 2:1-2 KJV).”

Emmanuel

June 10, 2009

(Matt 1:23) “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

In the world which we live in today there are so many challenges; there are so many ups and downs; there is so much adversity that it’s good to know that the Christian has someone with us; someone who has declared that He will never leave us or forsake us. This someone we know to be Jesus Christ. Though times are tough, though we face challenges in our lives as all others do, the edge that we have is that God is really with us. It may not seem like it sometimes but God never misses a heartbeat in the lives of those who has confessed him to be Lord and savior. In fact, our brother King David was so confident that the Lord was with us that he stated “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for though art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me (Psalm 23:4)”. Thus, if you find yourself in the valley of your life right now; if you find yourself in a very difficult place right now; if you find yourself in a night season; know that God is with you and He will work your situation out for good if you will trust him.

All Tradition Is Not Bad

June 9, 2009

(1 Thess. 2:15) “Therefore, brethren stand fast and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or by epistle.”

Many times when tradition is talked about in the church it tends to have a negative connotation to it, as if all tradition is bad. But the fact is that all tradition is not bad if it lines up with and promotes the word of God. In this new age movement; this age of pastors being more concerned about the size of the crowd on Sunday than they are the size of the power of God, tradition or church as they knew growing up may be pushed aside for the benefit of the creature comforts of church. Thus, church becomes more of a place to entertainment than it does a place of deliverance; where church becomes more of a for profit entity than it does a place of true praise and worship. Where church becomes more of a place of rock bands, hip hop culture and anything goes if it will draw a crowd. And the truth is that church 20 years ago it wasn’t that way. The church wasn’t there to entertain us, it was there to get us saved, delivered and set free, and many of the ministries today have gotten away from those attributes for the benefit of making a name, fame and a dollar bill. In fact, most of them today could care less of whether or not you get saved. Change is not bad when it’s done right, so I’m not against it, but neither is tradition bad when it lines up with the word of the Lord.

Where The Men At?

June 8, 2009

(Ex. 23:17) “Three times a year all thy males shall appear before the Lord God.”

God commanded the men in Israel to appear before him three times a year. Thus, they were required to present themselves before God, and when they showed up they were not to show up empty handed. They were expected to bring an offering. And men of God, the Lord is looking for men (who claim to love Jesus) to show up to the throne of grace daily, and He expects that we won’t show up empty handed, but with something to offer God. He expects that our offerings will be a broken spirit and contrite hearts. He expects men to show up with a sacrifice of praise; he expects us to show up and give an account of how we’ve been living our lives; he expects us to show up for prayer, study and instruction on how to live this life skillfully. Another term for living this life with skill is “holiness”. The Father is looking for men to show up who are not afraid to cry when they are hurting, men who are not afraid or too prideful to ask him for help when they need it; men who are not afraid to cry out to God in a public assembly or those who aren’t afraid to become Jesus freaks. Thus, even as he commanded Israel to present all males to him in the OT days, the request today is the same “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in our time of need (Heb 4:15)”; and this presentation of ourselves is a daily requirement. Therefore, let us step our game up.

Real Love

June 3, 2009

Real love is not natural it’s supernatural.  And if Christians are going to operate in real love we are going to need to submit our whole lives to God, because He will make us to increase and abound in love.  In fact (1 Thess. 3: 12) “And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you.”  Thus, if we will give our lives to him, he has a way of causing our love to increase not only for family and friends, but for anyone.  If we (who are Christians) are going to be known for anything it should be how we love because people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.  Further, God is more concerned with our love walk than He is anything else in our character because God is Love and if He is love then we must be as well.  We are commanded to love and without this love making it to heaven is impossible.  One of the Lord’s first commandments is “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment (Matt 22:37-38).”  Hence, there is no other way to or through Christianity without the love of God for the one we serve as well as our neighbor.
