Over the next week or so we will look at the heart of a champion from God’s perspective. We know what the world has shown us to be a champion; however, God shows us what a champion really looks like through the life of David in his battle with Goliath.
A champion is a defender of God: (1 Samuel 17:26)
For David it wasn’t so much that Goliath was coming against Israel, but it was more so that he openly challenged the power of God. For David this was an insult and he knew somebody would have to stand up for God, because we can’t call ourselves Christians and not stand up for God.
Thus, as Christians a champion in God’s eyes is someone that will stand up for him; someone who won’t allow their friends or associates to blaspheme and disrespect the name of God; someone who won’t be found to be part of the crowd when the crowd is headed for destruction, but someone who would dare to be different. Child of God we have to be even as David was in (1 Sam 17:26) when he said “For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God? He desires for us to defend him; he desires for us to serve him and stand up for him even as David did. The truth is that when no one else would stand up for God in the face of His enemy David was prepared to stand, and we should be as well.
God Bless You
