Seven Conditions Of Blessing By God -Part 3

September 14, 2010

Continuing with the theme of the third message to Judah in (Jer. 7:1-7) the third condition of blessing for Judah was they were commanded to (thoroughly amend their ways and their doings). Saints of God we have already heard Jeremiah tell them to amend their ways, but now he comes back to them and essentially tells them the same thing again; and anytime God tells you something twice pay very close attention to it because it is important to God, thus it should be important to us. Saints of God if Judah was going to get to heaven they had to change and we have the same mandate upon our own lives. If we are going to get to heaven we have to change, and the change must be thorough.

Thus, we must ask the Spirit of God to search the deep dark crevices of our heart and expose any hidden sin that we have missed. We must go in and do a deep cleaning of our heart. I liken it to doing a thorough cleaning in your home where you go in and wash the dishes’, take out the trash, make up the beds, mop, sweep and vacuum the floors and while you at it get the furniture polish out and dust also. You see many of us don’t clean our homes like that on a regular basis, especially when it comes to dusting. However, that’s what God expects when it comes to thoroughly amending our ways He desires a thorough cleaning. He desires a thorough change in our lives. The Lord desires for our change to be so evident that heaven has to stand up and testify that we have changed, somebody on the earth has to testify of our change and even Satan himself will have to take notice and testify of our change, because if we have thoroughly amended our ways somebody will definitely say so.

Seven Conditions of Blessings-Part 2

The second thing Judah had to do in order to be blessed of God was to “Trust not in lying words”. In Judah’s day there were so many false prophets and idols that it was easy to find yourself trusting in a lie. It was easy to find yourself receiving a message of peace, joy and prosperity when there really was none in the land. It was a whole lot easier listening to someone telling you what you wanted to hear than it was listening to a message of judgment, even though the message of judgment is exactly what they needed to hear because it was the truth of God.

However, the same holds true for us today, with all the access we have to technology; with the multitude of ways the pastors, the prophets, the motivational speakers…etc, whether true or false, have access to our living rooms it’s even easier today to find ourselves listening to lying words. In fact, some leaders have the ability to speak in such a way that if you don’t absolutely know the word of God for yourself they will have you believing as Judah did saying “The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord are these.” In other words, they will have you believing that God is this or God is that when that is the furthest thing from the truth. They will have you believing more in yourself, in your possessions and maybe even in them than they do Christ Jesus.

Thus, the way to keep ourselves from trusting in lying words is to study God’s word and understand it for ourselves. It’s incumbent upon us to read it out, write it down, pray it in and work it out. (Ref. Jer.7:1-7)

Seven Conditions of Blessing by God-Part 1

In (Jer.7:1-7) the prophet Jeremiah shares with the people of Judah what they need to do in order to be blessed by the Lord and these traits are no different for the New Testament Church today. The first thing he tells them is they must (amend their ways and their doings): In other words, Judah had to change. And that’s no different for us today. If we are going to make it to heaven; if we are going to dwell in the presence of God; if we are going to truly be blessed we have to change our ways and our doings. We can’t stay like we are and believe that somehow God is going to receive us into a pure and sinless heaven. Even if we are saved today we still have to be in a state of continual change as the Lord would lead because He expects us to grow, mature and be all that He has called us to be.

We can never get to a place in Christ where we believe we have arrived and there are some in the body of Christ that have this belief that they have arrived, and if that’s the case then God can teach you nothing. Hence, if we believe we have arrived, then in our minds God can teach us nothing; thus we are no use to God. Amending our ways and our doings is a daily walk with God. We know this is true because even the Apostle Paul said in (1 Cor. 15:31) “I die Daily”. Thus, even for one of the greatest spiritual leaders to ever live it was all about seeing less of himself and more of Christ in his daily Christian walk. If it was good for him it’s most certainly good for us.

The Sign Of A Disciple-Part 4

September 7, 2010

We often look at Peter’s denial of Jesus Christ as a negative, and on some level it certainly is a negative to deny your relationship with the Lord. However, if we look at Peter’s denial of Jesus closer, we also see something else which is imperative and that is the confirmation that Peter was a disciple of Christ. Peter’s three denials of Jesus also brought about three confirmations by people who lived in the region that he was a disciple of Christ. And we too must understand…if you are a real disciple of Christ, somebody is going to identify you as such; you want have to announce it, you want have to walk around with a bible in your hand or a gold cross around your neck; neither will you need a license plate on your car which says “clergy”, because people can tell when you’ve been with the Lord.
Thus, a true disciple of Christ stands out because he/she doesn’t talk like the world, they don’t behave themselves like the world. There is a standard which they uphold and that standard is holiness. Yes, Peter made some mistakes and so have we, however, at the end of the day, when it’s all said and done, I want somebody to confess “that brother has been with the Lord”. (Ref. St. John 18:15-27)

The Sign Of A Disciple-Part 3

September 2, 2010

(St. John 15:8) “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

The third sign of a Disciple is fruit bearing. A Christian must display some fruit; and I’m not talking about rotten fruit…such as bitterness, hatred, malice, idolatry…etc. I am talking about the fruit of the spirit. As Disciples of Christ we must exemplify love, joy, peace, and longsuffering just to name a few. To display this type of fruit (fresh fruit) is to glorify God. I call the fruit of the Spirit fresh fruit because nobody wants to eat rotten fruit. However, fresh fruit is good for you and good to you. In fact, it’s a recommended need for healthy bodies, thus, the fruit of the Spirit is a recommended need for a healthy spiritual body, mind and soul.

Therefore, as Christians we need to learn to love more, speak Godly words more, even smile more. The truth is, if every-time somebody sees you, and you are frowning my brother/sister then what they learn from you is that this Christian life you talk about must be fruitless.” However, if you can display the characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit and a smile from time-to-time, you can be assured that when people look at you they see fruitfulness. Finally, your fruit is not only in your character (fruit of the Spirit) or your conduct (fruit of righteousness) it is also in those you lead to Christ (the fruit of conversion). However, if your character and conduct aren’t right, then your converts-those you lead to Christ will be minimal anyway. Therefore, let’s challenge ourselves to bear much fruit so our Father will be glorified.

The Sign Of A Disciple-Part 2

September 1, 2010

(St. John 8:31-32 KJV) “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

The second sign of a disciple of Christ is you must become a student of God’s word. In fact, you must consistently study the word of God. We must continue in God’s word is what the scripture says; thus, there are no days off from reading the word. A disciple of Christ must study on good days, bad days and on those days where he/she feels somewhere in-between. We must study whether we feel like it or not; even if we have other things to do, because we always do, we must make time for God. As Disciples of Christ in order to be free, we must know the truth and in order to know the truth, we must know what God’s word says and apply it to our lives with skill. It is also equally important to not only know the truth, but we must live the truth which we know; it must be exemplified in our lifestyles. As Disciples of Christ we must know the truth because your enemy certainly knows God’s word, he’s just not into obeying it. Therefore, as you study your bible… read it out-write it down-pray it in and work it out and the truth will come alive in your heart.
