If you were given a chance to fulfill one desire, what would it be? Would the presence of God in your life be at the top of your list? Would having a better relationship with God be at the top of your list? These are some of the questions I had to ask myself after reading (Psalm 27:4), where David said “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to enquire in his temple.” David’s number one desire was to have the fullness of the presence of God in His life and as Christians that should be our number one desire, to have more of God and less of me.
David didn’t desire a bigger house, more money, more fame nor more chariots although there is nothing wrong with having other desires as long as they are put in their proper place. Simply put, we need more of God because when He is in place the rest of our life seems to be put in the proper perspective. Christians talk a good game, they love to talk about how much they love God, but God is looking at our heart and He knows what our number one desire is. If you really want to know what your #1 desire is examine your thought life or your various activities and ask yourself, how much of it involves God? Thus, that will tell you what you really desire. Remember, (Matt 6:21) says “Where a mans treasure is there will his heart be also”.
