For the believer the lover in you should be the person of the Holy Spirit, because God is Love and the Holy Spirit is the third person in the Godhead. Thus, if the Lover of your soul lives in you, you ought to be able to display that love as well. And on this Valentine’s Day if you haven’t loved your spouse like you should have, or I should say as Christ would have you to, make a promise to yourself that you will do better going forward. We know, like any other heavily commercialized day, that the world would have us go broke over our spouse on this day. However, it’s not about how much money you spend that counts, it’s the thought that you put into what you give and a heart that’s genuine.
The truth is that because of the lover that’s in you, everyday for a Christian marriage should be like Valentine’s Day, whether our day was rough or not; because if I can just get home to my wife everything else will be alright because the Lover in her (the Holy Spirit) will greet me when I get there. (Ephesians 5:25) declares “Husbands love your wives even as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it.” However, it also says in the same book “Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord (Eph 5:22).”
Thus, there is still much work for all of us to do if the Lover in us is going to perfect our marriages that we may be able to offer it back to God without spot or wrinkle. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a pressure filled day, however, since the world is attempting to remind us to love the one that is special to us, and I deem that to be our spouse. Let us take the time at some point today and examine are we truly allowing the Lover in us to show us how to love our spouse. Happy Valentine’s day.
God Bless You
