As Christians we should never put ourselves in a position where we are quenching the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is the ministry that is leading us, guiding us and teaching us on the earth, and we must be in a position where we are able to hear the voice of the Spirit at all times. To quench the Spirit is to extinguish, put out or to pour water on.
Thus, to extinguish or pour water on the fire of the Holy Spirit is to extinguish the flame or light that burns on the inside of us. As Christians we must be willing to yield fully to the Spirit of God; we must be willing to let God have his way as my grandmother used to say. In fact, letting the Holy Spirit shine from your life was so important to God that (1 Thess 5:19) “Quench not the Spirit”.
As Christians we want this light of the Holy Spirit to shine daily, not just on Sunday morning during the praise and worship, or when it’s time to preach the word, but it is just as important that it shines on your job, in your home and in the community at large. Child of God we don’t want to quench the very thing which gives us life, and when our attitude is not right the Spirit is quenched; when our heart is not right the Spirit is quenched, and when we operate in disobedience to the will of God the Spirit is quenched.
God Bless You
