Blessed are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled (Matt 5:6)
Jesus continues his “Beatitudes Sermon” and he says blessed (happy) are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled. Those who hunger and thirst after righteousness desire the presence of God in their lives more than anything else. They have a longing, a thirst and a yearning for that which only God can give and that is salvation, that is peace in the midst of a storm and that is a place of protection from the hand of the enemy.
The desire for righteousness is so great that nothing else matters. They desire a right standing with God, an intimate relationship with God, to the degree that their spirit man cries out for his presence. It’s a cry of desperation. King David demonstrates this desperation to us when he says “O God, thou art my God: early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and a thirsty land where no water is (Psalm 63:1 KJV). It’s those who cry out as David did who will be filled with the righteousness of God.
God Bless You
