(Gen 2:24) says “Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother and shall cleave unto his own wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Finally, they would become one flesh: to become one flesh involves making love. However, it goes beyond the physical press of the flesh. It also means that the two must become one from a spiritual standpoint: Meaning that they come together and they share their dreams, hopes, fears, possessions, feelings, difficulties, successes and failures with God and with each other. It means that as husband and wife we must become transparent with each other, to the degree that our hearts connect. That’s oneness!
It does not mean that somehow the two personalities no longer exist, but the two personalities should be developed in partnership with our spouse for the benefit and edification of the marriage. Too often, one spouse or the other desires to make the relationship about them, but when we share those things I mentioned earlier, successes, failures…etc; it now puts us on a path to see some victory in our marriage; and the truth is that everyone needs to see some victory from time to time to stay in the battle for their marriage.
