The Joy of the Lord is imperative to our lives because without it we will spend many of our days in confusion, frustration and misery. The Apostle Paul says “Rejoice always again I say rejoice” because without that daily renewal of Joy men will wither up and slowly die. Saints of God to wither means to lose vitality, force or freshness; to make speechless or incapable of action; to dry up or become sapless. Thus, we find this trait more often in men than women because women aren’t afraid to give God the praise; women aren’t afraid to talk about their issues and needs; women aren’t afraid to cry out to God.
However, it tends to take us men a little longer to get to that point and some never get to the place where they will praise God openly, or pray openly or cry out to God openly. And when we hinder God’s access to our lives we hinder our access to Joy, and the lack of Joy brings on the spirit of the withering. Joel said it best to the men of Judah “The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomengranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men (Joel 1:12).” Pay attention to your joy meter and if it’s running low raise a praise to the Lord and watch it begin to rise.
God Bless You
