As God had told the Prophet Samuel that he was looking to replace Saul as King. He sent him to Jesse’s house (Ref. 1 Sam 16) to anoint the next King. As Jesse’s sons passed before the prophet the first young man he saw was Eliab, and he assumed that this must be the next king because he was handsome and his stature(bodily build) was perfect for kingship.
However, God spoke and immediately told Samuel in (1 Sam 16:7 KJV) “Look not on his countenance or the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but God looketh at the heart.”
And as Christians we too must not judge based on the outward appearance of a man/woman we must be willing to look at the heart of man as God does. Now we know that God can see the heart immediately, however, if we watch someone’s life long enough we too can get a picture of what their heart looks like because their behavior will put their heart on display.
Therefore, when it comes to choosing to follow a leader, or choosing someone you plan to spend the rest of your life with in holy matrimony or even the friendships you decide to build with others, don’t be fooled by the outer shell, because the devil has a way of dressing them just the way you like it. Spend some time watching their lives and praying, and God will reveal their heart so you don’t find yourself regretting the relationships you decided to build and the doors you opened unto them to your heart.
God Bless You
