Lip Service

(Matt 15:8) “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.”

I have come to understand that people say a lot of things they don’t mean. People say a lot of things they don’t believe. But the fact is that God is paying more attention to our actions than He is the things that’s coming from our mouths because you can tell a lot about what people believe based upon how they live.

Thus, if someone tells you they love God but every time you turn around they’re doing things contrary to the word of God then more than likely they really don’t love God because those who love God keeps His commandments. Jesus understood what lip service was all about during His time as well. He had a lot of so called followers who said they loved him; he had a lot of followers who said they would be with Him.

However, when the going got tough and the way of Christianity got rough, many seem to just walk away. Child of God, as Christians the things that unbelievers are watching the most is our actions. The thing that other believers are watching the most is our actions. People do really want to know if our words fall in line with our behavior.

Words and actions was so important to King David that he said “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O lord my strength and my redeemer (Psalm 19:14).” Thus, the words that come from our lips should be in line with the issues of the heart, because out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

God Bless You
