Growing in Grace and Knowledge

May 30, 2012

(1Pt. 3:18) says “But grow in grace, and in knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.

As Christians, it is important that we continue to grow in the things of God that is appropriated by grace. Or another way of putting that is to continue to grow by means of the grace and favor of God. And we come to grow as we continually seek the knowledge and wisdom of Jesus Christ. In fact, (Hosea 4:6) says “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge”. However, for the true believer it’s not simply the knowledge that we are after; it’s the heart transformation that we are after that comes through the knowledge of God.

Hence, the more we know about him drives us more and more to be transformed, to the degree that we become like him. Some people want the knowledge of God just so they can say they have it. However, it’s only those who transform the knowledge of the word into spirit and life; it’s only those who can transform the knowledge into a life that exemplifies that knowledge that will truly make it into heaven. If we have the knowledge only to impress man, what have we really done? Not much. But when that knowledge becomes a living, breathing word of God in us, then we can say we are on the straight and narrow path which will eventually lead us to heaven.

No Respecter Of Persons

May 25, 2012

(Rom 2:11) “For there is no respect of persons with God.”

This is one of the many things I like about God, and that is: God does not show favoritism. God loves the poor the same as he does the rich; he loves all nationalities with the same love. He doesn’t prefer a man over a woman as it pertains to the love of God. Yes, he does love us all; however, that doesn’t mean all of us are going to heaven, because heaven is only reserved for those who are living according to God’s standards.

It’s good to know that God is not impressed with the riches of man or the wealth of resources he possesses. Neither is he impressed with the status or celebrity of man. However, he is impressed with a man/woman who will give their heart to him. The fact is, God will receive anybody into his family who will believe and receive his son Jesus as Lord and savior, and he doesn’t care who you are, what your background is or where you come from. We should all be excited that God is not like man because man (even a Christian man) will prefer one believer over another. It happens everyday in the body of Christ.

Watch And Pray

May 23, 2012

(St. Mark 14:38) “Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.”

As Christians we must be mindful to keep the eyes of our heart open to things that are going on in the world around us. We must try to see this world and everything that’s happening in it through God’s eyes. One of the ways we can do that is through prayer. Without a consistent prayer life it will be hard for us to see from God’s perspective; without a consistent prayer life it will be hard to keep ourselves from falling into temptation and the snares of the enemy.

Thus, without a consistent prayer life it is more than likely that we will find ourselves getting caught up in the cares of this life. The spirit man which God placed in us from birth is truly ready to serve God, the spirit man in us is truly ready to be led by the Holy Spirit; however, there is another member attempting to gain control over us and that is our fleshly man or (the old man) the man we used to be before we got saved. There is no doubt that if we are not people of prayer the flesh will gain a stronghold in our lives, and it does not matter how long you have been saved, the flesh always desires to be in charge of our lives.

The Apostle Paul said it perfectly when he said “But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members (Rom 7:23).” Thus, child of God that which brought him into captivity to the law of sin was the flesh which continually fights against the law of God for supremacy in our lives, and the flesh follows hard after the things of the world. Therefore, we must strive to get closer to God each and every day.

Control Yourself

May 22, 2012

As Christians we must learn how to control ourselves. We must learn how to control our actions, thought life and certainly our tongues. Show me a Christian without temperance (self control) and I will show you a person who opens himself/herself up to all types of demonic influence which will attack their lives. In fact, (Pro 25:28) says “He that hath no rule over his spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls.”

Hence, if your spirit is not under the influence of the Holy Spirit daily, then as a confessed born again believer, you are subject to say or do anything. Without the Holy Spirit ruling over your spirit, your spirit is left unprotected, vulnerable and open to the things of the world, the flesh, and the devil. Let us be sure that everyday we live, we have submitted our will and our spirit to the will of the Holy Spirit so we don’t get caught up in ungodly situations.

Be Strong In The Lord

May 17, 2012

Though life get’s difficult sometime; though it’s hard to see your way, and the pressure of life just seems to be overwhelming. Let me encourage you my brother /sister “To be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might (Eph 6:10).” When you feel down; when you feel a little weak; when you feel like throwing in the towel, when you feel like it’s just too much, that’s about the time that God is ready to strengthen you for the marathon that you have to run called life… for the race is not given to the swift and the strong but to they that endure to the end. There are a lot of people who started out with us and they looked as if they were very strong and had the endurance of a world class athlete. However, there strength was simply relying on what they could do and not what the resurrection power of God has the ability to do. Because after you have come to the end of yourself, that’s all you have is yourself. But those who do know their God understand that coming to the end of ourselves is exactly where we want to be because that’s when God strength takes over.

The Power Of One

May 15, 2012

(Gen 11:6) “And the Lord said, behold the people are one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.”

This was about a people who decided they were going to build them a tower toward heaven in an effort to make a name for themselves. This project was strictly about them and their pride. What we find to be interesting though is the power of unity or the power of oneness these people at Babel had. They were so together that even God had to confess that “nothing can be restrained from them that they have imagined to do.” These were not people who necessarily loved God but God recognized that anyone one operates as a unit can be unstoppable.
Thus, God had to intervene, confound their language and separate these people.

Which brings me to this point, if the body of Christ took on the mentality that we are going to do something for God; that we are going to do something that blesses Him; that we are going to come together with one mind, all speaking the same language, what great power would emanate from the church. When church leadership gets past worrying about who is going to lead, whose church is going to be at the forefront or get rid of the ‘what’s in it for me mentality,’ we will have the opportunity to really be a witness for Christ on a grand scale. The people in Babel had the right thought process, but they had the wrong motives. If we can learn anything from these people it would be that there is power in oneness.

Keep The Faith

May 9, 2012

In (Hebrews 11) we see those Old Testament saints who did great things by and through faith. From Abraham, to Moses, Gideon and even David they all had to do the same thing we have to do today if we are to finish well on earth and make it to heaven, and that is we too must keep the faith. Though times are hard, we must keep the faith; though things often look bad, we have to keep the faith.

There will even be times when it looks like God won’t come through for us, even in those times we have to keep the faith because we know that God always comes through. It may not be the way we thought He should come through; however God never fails where faith abounds.

For we know this is true because the writer of (Hebrews 11:6KJV) says “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he which cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Where God sees true faith He will come for it. Thus, it is incumbent of us all who say we are Christians to keep the faith, for it is required of us who live in God’s Kingdom. Therefore, let us who have received Jesus Christ as Lord and savior begin to see our future as our present and the invisible as visible because the fight isn’t over yet and your victory is close at hand.
