Pleasant Words

Those of us who are married in the body of Christ should strive to speak pleasant words in our marriages. Words that encourage, uplift and affirm our spouse; words that bring joy and laughter to the faces of the ones we said “I Do” to. Those whom we promised this union would be for life. Pleasant words are words such as I love you, I believe in you, I trust you, I’m sorry or we can get through this; words that cause us to think and consider, words that strengthen, words that bring about excitement. A word that should bring about excitement in any marriage is “let’s make love”!

I know this is uncomfortable for many in the body of Christ but the fact is the body of Christ has as high a divorce rate as the world, and part of the reason why the divorce rate is so high is because we won’t make love to our spouse. In fact, some couples are even uncomfortable talking about it, but it is of God. Pleasant words are so powerful that King Solomon wrote “Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to thy soul, and health to thy bones (Prov. 16:24).” Thus, if we desire to see healthy marriages, if we desire to see some child like fun in our marriages every once and a while, if we desire to see the divorce rate fall in Christian marriages, let us deposit pleasant words in the ears of our spouse and be the change we want to see.

God Bless You
