In the book of Phillipians Chapter 1 the Apostle Paul opens his letter to the Church at Phillipi thanking them for supporting him in the work that God has called him to do. He writes “I thank my God for upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now” (Phil 1:3-5). Thus, he thanks them for their prayers, their gifts of love and their continued support and encouragement and most of all the fellowship.
And we who are Christians ought to thank those who have supported us, prayed for us or encouraged us not only in ministry, but in any goal or work we have completed. We must understand that we didn’t get to where we are on our own. Contrary to what others may say or think, we didn’t pull ourselves up by our own boot straps to do great things for God under our own power. If we think long and hard enough there was always somebody there praying for us; there was always somebody there encouraging us to do a little better; God always had a ram in the bush to encourage many of us to go further… from our parents, siblings, friends, school teachers and certainly the grace of God. Let’s thank God for those who have labored with us; those who have cried with us and those who have encouraged us when we were about to give up and throw in the towel because no one is an island unto themselves.
God Bless You
