There is no doubt we can learn from our past mistakes. In fact, we never want to forget our past because many times our past shapes our future. For example, if you have messed up in past relationships, finances, or child rearing you don’t want to continue down that same path in the future or you will never have success in those areas. It is those mistakes in our past which causes us to re-think how we will deal with those situations in our future. However, we should not allow our past mistakes to keep us down. Don’t allow your past to condemn you, or shame you, or try to keep you in a depressed state, repent, begin to see your situation from Gods perspective and begin to allow God to make changes in your life. The Apostle Paul puts his past in the proper perspective when he says “But this one thing I do forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:13). If you could see what God sees when He looks at your future, you would put your past in the past and start rejoicing about your future; because in Christ your future looks good. Thus, “there is therefore no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit”.
